Kevin Morris-Strong, Wildcat Receives First Division 1 Offer
by : Next Level Combines StaffKevin Morris received the phone call that he’s been waiting for his whole life. Morris was offered his first athletic scholarship offer from Georgia State University while on spring break. Georgia State currently plays in the (FBS) or the highest level of college football after joining the Sun Belt conference in 2012. For many athletes, their first offer is usually a sign of greater things to come.
Morris attends Lovejoy High school in Hampton,
Georgia. The Wildcats are
known to produce top level talent and produce a number of D1 athletes every
year. Morris takes great pride in his team and their winning tradition. Former NFL running back, Tashard Choice, also
walked the hall of Lovejoy high school and lived his dream of playing in the
NFL. Morris would love to someday follow in Choice footsteps and play professional
football. But for now, Morris is taking it one day at a time. Making sure to
focus on his team and helping them get back to the big game. After a stellar sophomore and junior season, Morris goes into his senior year prepared to lead his team to another state championship run. In 2012, Lovejoy lost in the state championship game to Norcross after a hard fought game.
As Morris focuses on the many aspects of being a student-athlete, we take a glance at his career and what has led to his on-field success.

Morris has been playing the running back position
since the age of four and developed an instinct for making defenders miss. Morris
was a Pop warner standout and member of the Pan Handle Gamecocks. His parents
entered him into football and knew instantly that he had a gift for scoring
touchdowns. It almost seemed as if Morris was destined for running the football.
Morris would score an average of 3 touchdowns a game during his youth career
and was sought after by many high school programs.
Morris credits his family for helping him become the
athlete he is today.
His family has played an intrigue role in his
success. Football is a tradition in his family and he knows that there are high
expectations in both the classroom and on the field. Like his older brother, Morris wears the #4
jersey for the Wildcats. His brother was also a standout for the Wildcats and
earned a full athletic scholarship to attend SE Louisiana. The number #4 jersey is not just a number for Morris, but
more like a family emblem that brings high expectations.
Morris highlights shows
that he can be a threat at multiple positions. Morris lined up as running back,
receiver, returner, and even handled the kicking duties for his team.
Morris racked up over 1,200 all-purpose yards, 10
touchdown, averaged 11 yards per carry and 17.1 yards per catch and was selected
as Lovejoy‘s Offensive Back of the year. A great feat considering the fact that
he started out 3rd on the depth chart and seen limited carries in
the first few games.
After seeing the
results of hard work and persistence in the weight room, Morris is currently preparing for spring practice and upcoming
recruiting events to help catch the eyes of college football recruiters. Morris is on the radar of several major
universities.
Kevin has a number of schools on his recruiting radar
including; Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Florida State, Ole Miss, and several others.
After attending Clemson’s spring game, Morris stated that he is a big Clemson
fan, but for now, he is keeping all his options open.
After receiving his first offer, Morris is humbled
to know that one day he has the potential to sign a full scholarship and play the
game he grew up playing his whole life.
With over 1.1 million High school football players
across the US, the number of scholarship available to high school football athletes
are limited. To put that into perspective, around 70,000 thousand or 1% of
those athletes will go on to play college football.
“The fact of the matter is that everyone does not
get the opportunity play football at the next level.”
For most athletes going into their senior year,
their off-season plans are very important for increasing their chances of
receiving a football scholarship. Athletes attend a number of camps, combines,
and campus visits to show coaches they have skills needed to receive a further
evaluation.
Morris
attended the 2014 Nike NFTCS Combine, MVP Combine, and was also invited to the rivals.com
Under Armor Combine. After posting an impressive 4.4 forty, 36 vertical, and
4.2 shuttle, Morris is working to further improve his combines numbers for
upcoming summer camps. After already attending a number of events, Morris has
plan to attend several camps close to home.
Morris has also been in involved in a number of
community services projects and knows the importance of leadership. Morris worked with The PACK during the summer. The PACK is a summer camp for kids that teach them
the importance of character and discipline. Morris often visits his former
youth team to talk to players about the importance of education, dedication,
and hard work. For Morris, these are the traits necessary to get to the Next
Level.
